About the event
The college personal statement is one of the most important — and often most confusing — parts of the application process. In this workshop, students learn how to approach the essay with clarity and authenticity.
Led by college essay coach and teen & adult counselor Abby Peizer, this session breaks down what admissions officers are really looking for in the personal statement and how students can tell their own unique stories with confidence.
Students will learn:
What the college essay is — and what it definitely is not
How to avoid common mistakes
How to craft a strong opening “hook” that captures a reader’s attention
How to choose meaningful topics and reveal the parts of themselves not shown elsewhere in the application
How to approach prompts
Through real examples and practical guidance, students will leave with a clear starting point for their personal statement and a better understanding of how to write an essay that stands out.
Designed for high school juniors and seniors beginning the college application process. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend.
The event will be held in the Boulder Creek Room at the Boulder Public Main Library.
